Qatalyst completed its first paid commercial engagement through the IonQ and Qollab Creative Challenge.
The deliverable, Quantum Courier, turns vehicle routing with time windows into an interactive browser experience. Players compare a classical planner with a quantum-inspired approach while learning why problem structure matters more than simply increasing qubit count.
The work included experiments on real IonQ Forte hardware. A graph-cutting benchmark and a routing problem produced different outcomes: the quantum experiment performed strongly on the structured MaxCut instance, while classical simulated annealing remained better on the vehicle-routing instance.
That mixed result is central to Qatalyst’s product philosophy. Solver selection should be evidence-led: classical by default, with quantum or quantum-inspired methods used only where benchmarking shows a credible advantage.
The engagement also demonstrated Qatalyst’s ability to translate technical optimisation research into a clear, accessible and interactive product experience.
